Update from northern Israel – 4 killed in drone attack on Israeli army base

Tal Hartuv - 14 October 2024

On Sunday night Israel suffered one of  the largest mass casualty events since war broke out. Launched by Hezbollah, an unmanned aircraft carrying an explosive head  crashed into a Golani army base near Binyamina in the center of Israel.  The drone plunged through the roof of the cafeteria where hundreds of soldiers were having a meal. The results were devastating with 4 soldiers killed and scores more injured, many of them critically.

Along with ambulances, helicopters arrived on the scene to airlift the injured to hospitals throughout Israel. There was an immediate media blackout on the exact location so as not to enable the enemy to gather more intel during the chaos that ensued.

The army base in Binyamina is for new recruits. All four soldiers had only recently enlisted and were in basic training for the Golani Brigade. All four were just 19 years old.  Three were Jewish and one was an Arab.

Hours later, the Israeli Air Force launched strikes on Hezbollah positions 50 kilometres north of the Lebanese southern border striking deeper and deeper into enemy territory.  Israelis can only hope, that this is nothing but a warm-up for a comprehensive, effective and devastating attack on Iran.
