Up until now, Abraham was portrayed by the biblical texts as the one who obeys the God’s word against all odds, builds altars, boldly proclaims the name of Lord in a pagan environment, pleads with God for others and, thus, saves his nephew. Now, in Genesis 20, we encounter a totally different Abraham; we see a man who is afraid of the inhabitants of the land, full of prejudices, denying his God – and gentiles who are totally different than expected.
