God is faithful – Israel 70 years!

Rev. Willem Glashouwer - 18 April 2018

As Christians, we have been eyewitnesses for over a hundred years of the return of the Jewish People to the promised land. Numerous Biblical prophecies are being fulfilled before our eyes. In Isaiah 43:5-8 for example, where the LORD speaks through the prophet that His people Israel may return from the four corners of the earth to their own land– ending the nearly two thousand yearlong ‘Roman’ exile. There has been an independent Jewish state of Israel for 70 years now, with Jerusalem as its undivided capital for over 50 years.

I once described the necessary involvement of Christians in the return of the Jewish people like this: “Christians from many churches and denominations see the return of the Jewish people to Israel as the fulfilment of Biblical prophecy, and consider this return as one of the most important signs of the times. This return of the chosen people of Israel, with whom the LORD has made eternal covenants, also points to the approach- ing return of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel, and the King of the world; for the Christian Church, for Israel, and for the nations on earth, yes, for creation itself. This makes Israel the greatest sign of hope for the world. God fulfils His plans and moves history towards the purpose set by Him, which is the coming of His Kingdom and the coming of the King of that Kingdom.”

There is a silent message for the Church in the events surrounding Israel. The Church must prepare for the approaching return of the Lord Jesus Christ and truly begin to love her older Jewish brother in His Name.

Churches should confess their part in church history that created a climate allowing millions of Jews to be killed. As the fruit of true repentance, we should be acting in solidarity with the Jewish people and the state of Israel. This includes taking a stand against anti-Semitism whenever and wherever this happens; both inside and outside the Church, in Islam, or in other forms of religious or non-religious thinking.

It means praying for the peace of Jerusalem, and trying to help the Jewish people in a practical way: financially, morally and spiritually. The love for Israel and the Jewish people should clearly unite all Christians. It’s a matter of actions speaking louder than words!

The LORD says in Jeremiah 32:36-41

“…I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety. They will be My people, and I will be their God. I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear Me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them. I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear Me, so that they will never turn away from Me. I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all My heart and soul…”

If He is fully committed to this with all His heart and soul, shouldn’t we also be? So let’s faithfully continue to pray for Israel, and unceasingly support ‘Bring The Jews Home’!
