Salvation is from the Jews | Rev. Willem Glashouwer

Rev. Willem J.J. Glashouwer - 27 July 2020

When Jesus speaks with the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4, He makes in verse 22 a deep observation in His answer to her: “You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.”

Jews know God
Gentiles are by birth without hope and without God in the world.

Paul says in Ephesians 2:11-12 “Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands) — remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the Covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.”

Salvation was from the Jews
Thora, the ‘Covenant of the Law’ was made with Israel, Exodus 24:3-8. The Ten Commandments are called: the ‘Golden Rule’ for mankind. Not just for Israel but for the nations of the world as well. Through Israel the Bible came into the world as the guiding light for all the nations.

Salvation is from the Jews
The Savior of the world is a Jew. He was born from the womb of His Jewish mother Mary. He kept and fulfilled the Law in full (Matthew 5:17) and did set us free from the curse of the Law, according to Galatians 3:13-14 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.” The Holy Spirit will bring forth the fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:16-25. Verse 18 says: “…if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.”

Salvation will be from the Jews
When in the future from Jerusalem the guiding light of the Law will inspire the nations of the world, under the leadership of the King of kings and the Lord of lords, the Messiah of Israel will rule over the nations from Jerusalem. Isaiah 2:2-4 “In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s Temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many peoples [nations] will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.” The Law will go out from Zion, the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.”

So: let us pray for the Peace of Jerusalem and the Coming of the Prince of Peace to Jerusalem!
