20) Then all your people will be righteous

Rev Henk Poot - 17 December 2021
Friday 17 December

Isaiah 60:13-22

‘The LORD will be your everlasting light’ Isaiah 60:20

The future we are eagerly looking forward to will also be wonderful for Israel. Of course, it will be adorned with glory. Jerusalem, the footstool of God’s throne, will be magnificent. The nations will recognise the nature of Jerusalem, which is nothing less than the city of God, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel. There will be no more war, no more hatred, no more mourning and sorrow. And even the sun and the moon will pale in comparison to the glory of God that will radiate on the Promised Land.

Through this, Israel will realise more than ever that the Lord is the saviour and redeemer of His people. And then, we read, all Israel will be righteous.

They will not only be declared righteous; their sins will have disappeared like snow in the sun. They will be blameless.

We know that we will share in that total rebirth. Jesus also refers to the coming of the Kingdom as such (Matthew 19:28). Not only will our bodies be conformed to Jesus’ glorified body, but our minds and spirits will be infused with the Spirit of Christ. What a prospect. New people in a new world and a new society.

But it begins now, we may already develop towards it. From day to day we may be renewed by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:
Let us pray today that as we await the coming of Jesus, we will grow more and more in our faith and in holiness. With this prayer, read the promise of 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
