Donald Trump’s victory from an Israeli and Iranian perspective
As results began to come in of the American election – arguably the most important in years, Hezbollah sent a barrage of rockets deep into the heart of Israel
For the first time since the war began, a rocket landed in the inner secured area of Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv. As a result, some flights were delayed and there were minor disruptions, but soon Israel’s airways were open again.
The unprecedented attack towards Israel’s airport was enough to even put to the side the news of a Donald Trump victory.
The IDF’s Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi responded immediately to the barrage by calling to expand the ongoing ground offensive against Hezbollah.
Given the original fear that a a military assault on Lebanon would result in over 3000 rockets being fired at Israel per day, the strategic achievements of the IDF are nothing short of a staggering. With that, the cost is high with until now, 61 soldiers killed in fighting, and 40 civilians killed by rockets or drones sent from the territory of Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria
Israel knows that the work in Lebanon must be completed and that involves our forces penetrating deeper into Lebanon. Israel also knows that the head of the snake is Iran, and when that is gone, there is a real chance of peace.
With a new President elect in the White House from January, there is a sense in Israel, that as Herzl once said, “If you will it, it is no dream.”
