Haman is alive and kicking – and trying to kill all the Jews, again

14 March 2025

This week is Purim – the festival recorded in the book of Esther. At Purim, the Jewish people celebrate the miracle of their nation being saved from the evil plot of Haman to eliminate the Jewish people. Queen Esther’s uncle Mordechai was aware of Haman’s plot to destroy the Jews, and alerted his niece Esther, who had become Queen. She had the courage to appear before the king, where she informed him of Haman’s plot and demanded the king bring an end to Haman’s evil scheme.

The spirit of Haman is alive today. It is expressed in the radical Islamist world bent on annihilating the Jewish people, allied to neo-Marxist ideologues and their useful-idiot supporters in the West. Both are bent on destroying its Judeo-Christian foundations. This means annihilating the Jewish nation – and then the Christians.

“But where is the Mordechai today, who will alert Queen Esther of the threat? Where is the Esther who will appear before the king, to reveal Haman’s plot and demand that he be defeated?”

The Islamist jihadi fanatics are led by the revolutionary Shiite regime in Tehran. One of their projects is Hezbollah, the revolutionary organization in Lebanon that is bent on annihilating Israel and has disrupted the region. Another is Hamas – an evil, terror group that is supported by most Palestinians in Gaza (and the “West Bank”), and is openly and unashamedly dedicated to one goal: annihilating the Jewish nation.

Hamas took over 251 hostages from Israel back to the horror tunnels of the Gaza Strip on 7th October 2023. Some have been released. Some have been killed. Hamas still holds 59 hostages in Gaza. It is unknown how many are alive.

Hamas demands many conditions for releasing the remaining hostages. One of their demands is that Israel stop the fighting and that Hamas be allowed to remain in the Gaza Strip. So-called “Phase 2” negotiations between Israel and Hamas are underway in Qatar concerning the release of these hostages, pursuant to the hostages-ceasefire agreement reached in January. US envoy Steve Witkoff has made a proposal. JNS reports that the key elements of Witkoff’s proposal are as follows:

  • The release of five to six living hostages and the return of around nine bodies.
  • An enhanced formula for the release of Palestinian terrorists.
  • A ceasefire extending until after Israel’s Independence Day, which this year falls on May 1 (lasting 45-50 days).
  • Restoring the flow of aid and electricity into Gaza.
  • During the ceasefire, further negotiations would take place regarding the continuation of the deal.

This is crazy. How can it be that the world (including the USA) is not demanding the immediate release of ALL hostages, and the TOTAL AND UNCONDITIONAL dismantling of the terror organization Hamas?

“European leaders are giving in to the more-or-less blatant threats of the Islamic world.”

The answer is that the West is being held hostage to antisemitic Islamist extremists, their sponsors (especially Iran, Qatar and Turkey), and their allies like Russia and China. These organizatIons and countries have so much power that they are able to pressure Western and other more moderate states to give in to their demands.

The Islamists are trying to take control of Syria, following the fall of the Assad regime. Christians, Druze and Alawites—supporters of the deposed president, Basher al Assad, who himself caused the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Syrians—have been subjected over the past week to barbaric mass slaughter by the new Islamist government. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its leader, the unrepentant jihadist Abu Mohammad al-Julani who now goes by the name Ahmed al-Sharaa, promise to bring peace and stability. But they are either unable or unwilling to contain radical jihadists in Syria. Nevertheless, al-Julani is being welcomed with open arms by European leaders.

Haman’s threat to annihilate the Jewish people is gaining ground in Europe. European leaders are giving in to the more-or-less blatant threats of the Islamic world.

In Geneva, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) created a permanent Commission of Inquiry (COI) several years ago, with a perpetual mandate to investigate Israel for human rights and war crimes violations. It is a massively resourced, one-sided witch-hunt directed only against Jews. This week, the COI published its latest report – this time accusing Israel of committing “genocidal acts” against Palestinians by systematically destroying women’s healthcare facilities during the conflict in Gaza and used sexual violence as a war strategy. Israel’s permanent mission to the UN in Geneva described allegations in the report as unfounded, biased, and lacking credibility.

“The weakness of Western leaders has allowed the United Nations to become an echo chamber, where antisemites are appointed by Arab and Islamist countries and their allies to key UN positions”

Pathetically, UN Secretary-General Guterres refused to criticize the latest UN report, saying he has “no authority” to do so. And so, the UN is allowed again to present lies to the world as facts.

No-one knows this dynamic better that Rawan Osman. Part Lebanese, part Syrian, she grew up in Lebanon, where she was taught the standard Islamic/Arab mantra that “the Zionists” are the cause of all the problems in the world. When she moved to Europe a decade ago, she started to meet real Jewish people, and to her surprise discovered that they are not evil. Since 7th October, Oswan has been speaking out against the evil of Islamist extremism, and the hypocrisy of the West. Through her social media platforms, she speaks out against hatred toward the Jewish people and combats misinformation.

UN Watch recently invited her to give a speech in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, where she directly addressed the ambassadors of Iran, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Syria, and Lebanon. She questioned why these nations have not taken action against Hamas or provided aid to the people of Gaza.

This past week she spoke at universities in the Netherlands, where pro-Palestinian activists threatened her and attempted to disrupt her lectures. The police stood idly by.

According to Osman, Europe is being taken over by the Islamists. They are inciting pro-Palestine mobs in the West to spread Hamas’ lies. The weakness of Western leaders has allowed the United Nations to become an echo chamber, where antisemites are appointed by Arab and Islamist countries and their allies to key UN positions – deflecting attention to their own abuses of human rights, such as anti-normalization laws in Arab countries, pursuant to which it is illegal to have contact with Israelis. These human rights abuses in the Arab world stem from antisemitic feelings and core Islamist values that promote hatred of both Jews and Christians as infidels.

Thus, a strange coalition of Islamist antisemitism and woke neo-Marxist ideologies – united in their hatred of the Jews – has taken control of the United Nations, and the main institutions in the West, such as universities.

In her latest article this week, British journalist Melanie Philips describes this as “a highly organized Islamist uprising against the West”:

“The West won’t accept that it’s facing an Islamic holy war because it believes it can’t win against the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims. So it’s giving up without even putting up a fight, sheltering instead behind the comforting fiction that if Israel behaved differently everything would be absolutely fine. It needs instead to take off its blinders, join up the dots and fight like Israel to survive.”

Let us understand the message of Purim for the time we are living in. We must intercede for the Jewish people. We must heed the warning of leaders like Rawan Osman and Melanie Philips, and demand that our leaders in the West wake up, and have the courage to take the necessary action to demand the UNCONDITIONAL release of ALL hostages, and protect our Judeo-Christian heritage against the deliberate and coordinated Islamist attack on the foundations of our free society.

From Haman to Hamas—Purim in Our Time
Kees de Vreugd at Christians for Israel: “The Book of Esther (in Hebrew called the Scroll of Esther, as the liturgic reading in the synagogue is from a scroll) describes how the vicious Haman planned the annihilation of the Jewish people in Persia. This was in fact the second attempt of genocide on the Jews since Pharaoh’s in Egypt (Exodus 1:16). Haman’s plot was discovered by Mordecai who revealed it to his niece Esther. Esther had become queen of Persia after King Ahashverosh (Xerxes) had sent away his wife. Mordecai was an officer at the royal palace (Esther 2:19).”

SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK: Esther 4:12-17
12 When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai,13 he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” 15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” 17 So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.
