Northern Israel update – Israeli airstrike blinds Iranian air defenses
In the very early hours of Shabbat, on 26th October, dozens of Israeli fighter jets flew over 1500 kilometers to Iran and back in order to obliterate strategic military targets. This follows weeks of the Air Force carrying out multiple exercises and flyovers in preparation for the historic attack.
A variety of aircraft took part in the mission, including several F35, F16 and F15’s. Refueling was needed for each plane, on the way there and also on the way back. For the first time in history, Israel announced that some women had joined in the daring flying mission.
According to a statement by the IDF spokesman, among other targets, Israel destroyed the five major S-300 & S-400 radars which the Iranian air defense relied on along with Iranian proxy targets en route to Iran in Syria & Iraq.
Sites attacked in Syria were secret fortifications for producing missiles. Back in September, Shaldag, an elite Israeli commando unit executed a blistering operation by going into Syria, entering one of the missile sites, seizing highly classified documents and destroying the facility on their way out. They were all home in Israel before the Syrians knew anything about it. The blueprints they obtained contained all the intelligence needed concerning most of the military targets that were destroyed last night.
The IDF seem confident that the attack was significant and have now blinded Iran’s air defense. Should this indeed be the case, then the operation in the early hours of Shabbat has opened the path for Israel to attack the Iranian nuclear facilities at the optimum and appointed time.
