Update from northern Israel • Missile attack from Yemen
Early Sunday morning, alarms sounded in central Israel sending tens of thousands of Israelis into the shelters and safe rooms, following a detection of a hypersonic missile from the east, heading towards Tel Aviv.
The IDF carried out several unsuccessful attempts to intercept the missile, which traveled 2,600 kilometers before it exploded over the city of Modi’in causing shrapnel to fall over a broad area, and on the railway station, but thankfully with no cost to human life.
Hours later, a spokesperson from the Houthi Yemenite terror group claimed responsibility for the ballistic missile attack, “thanking Allah” that the missile had penetrated both American and Israeli aerial defense systems, and promising more on the way.
Despite the attack, the Home Front Command announced that there was no change in instructions for civilians. Schools and kindergartens were opened as usual.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, responded with a threat to the terrorists after the attack, which was translated into Arabic for the benefit of the enemy.
Netanyahu reminded them of the heavy price they will pay for any and every attempt to harm Israel. He also reminded them that lest they forget, they are welcome to visit the port of Hodeida in Yemen, which was blown to pieces in July by the IDF after as drone attack on Tel Aviv, which killed one Israeli and injured several others.
Generally overlooked, since the beginning of the war in October last year, the Houthi terrorists have fired 220 drones, ballistic and cruise missiles at Israel — mostly toward Eilat, Israel’s most southern city near the Red Sea.
